Ailey II is renowned as some of the country’s best young, passionate dancers talent under the creative vision of Artistic Director Francesca Harper. Created in 1974, Ailey II is hailed as “Second to None” by Dance Magazine, blending many dance styles together to create breath-taking performances.

The Next Generation of Dance
Originally founded by Alvin Ailey, the company embodies his pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training, and community programs for all people. Since its inception, Ailey II has flourished into one of the most popular modern dance companies, combining a rigorous touring schedule with extensive community outreach programs.
Ailey II consists of 12 professional dancers, seven of which are celebrating their first season with the ensemble, while the remaining five are in their second. This determination is precisely what fuels their energetic and technically-immaculate performances. Having been trained in the Alvin Ailey School, these young talented dancers are ready to showcase their rightful title as the Next Generation of Dance.
A Prolific Legacy
Throughout Alvin's life, he broke down barriers in the dance world, produced a broad representation of the diversity of Black American life, as well as laid the groundwork for future generations of black dancers and choreographers. Alvin Ailey, created the Ailey American Dance Theater in 1958 and Ailey II in 1974.
