Our monthly Local Legends Series returns with Windsong, a group that's been delighting the Cedar Valley since the 70's! Recently reorganized after several years in retirement, this group is ready to take the audience by storm and we can't wait to host them. This event is open for in person and virtual audiences!
Windsong is a Cedar Falls based band, recently reorganized after several years in retirement. Formed in 1976 the band was well known for its ability to play a wide variety of music, that encompassed many generations. Performing for wedding dances, private parties and night clubs across Northeastern Iowa, Windsong specializes in music ranging from pop, jazz and rock classics, to the top 40 hits of the day.
Windsong’s members are:
- Tom Barry, saxophone, guitar and vocals
- Kathie Barry, vocals
- Paul Clark, keyboards, vocals
- Matt Glascock, bass, vocals
- Josh Hakanson, drums
- Jax Barry, saxophone
- Jace Barry, trumpet
The current personnel includes 3 original members, Tom, Kathie, and Paul, who started the band back in the 70’s, Matt who was a part time bass player at various times in the past, and Josh, Jax and Jace, who are new to this 2021 version of Windsong. The original members of the band have been involved in other projects for the past 20 years, only recently coming back together to reimagine Windsong, as well as bring some of the old tunes back for all to enjoy.
The band members come from varied backgrounds in addition to playing in Windsong. Some of our current and past activities and professions include: a surgeon, professional musician and music educator, school counselor, high school band director, university audio tech, high school student, music composer and arranger, college music major, and university professor. You may also notice that many of the members have the same last name. Jax and Jace are grandsons of Tom and Kathie!

The Local Legends Series is a monthly concert series where your favorite hometown acts will take to the Great Hall stage and perform concerts for a hybrid audience who attend in-person or virtually. This programming is fun, fresh, and bold. The Local Legends Series breaks the traditional mold for programming you might expect to see at the Gallagher Bluedorn. What sweetens the experience even more is that you know you're supporting local by attending a Local Legends show.
